Quartz worktops are popular for their elegant appearance as well as their durability. Of course, just like any other stone worktop, it’s important to take proper care of these surfaces. By following the appropriate care routine, you can keep your worktops looking their best for many years to come.
Keeping them clean
Cleaning quartz surfaces is simple and all you need is a microfibre cloth and some clean water. Mild detergent can be used if absolutely necessary. However, it is important that you only use cleaning solutions designed for quartz worktops.
Avoid abrasives
Cleaning your quartz worktops should never involve abrasive substances or scrub pads. This will dull the surface and you will definitely start to see the unattractive effects sooner rather than later.
Don’t forget the chopping board
Always cut food on chopping boards and never cut directly on the worktop. Sharp objects like knives can do some serious damage. If you are planning on grating cheese, make sure that you use a plate or chopping board because the corners of the grater can cause similar damage.
Wipe up right away
As soon as anything spills on your worktops, you need to wipe the mess up immediately. The less time it has to rest on the quartz surface, the less chance of damage. This is especially important when it comes to substances like wine, vinegar and tomato juice. Wipe away or use paper towels to absorb the spill before washing the area with water and a clean cloth.
Avoiding the heat
While quartz is very tough and it will hold up well even when a hot pot is placed on this surface, it does not mean that damage will not occur. Hot pans and pots can scorch the surface of the stone and leave a permanent mark. Place your hot items on a wooden block or something similar to protect your worktops.
If a crack, scratch or any other damage does occur, it does not always mean that you need to have your worktops replaced. Repairs can be done and, in many cases, professional repairs are ideal because they are quicker and yield better results.
