Limestone worktops are a popular option in kitchens today. Of course, your kitchen is one of the busiest rooms in your home and there’s usually always something on the stove, in the oven or on the chopping block. Even if you’re not making food, you can be sure that drinks are being served. With so much happening, your worktops might just get damaged. Instead of panicking, it’s important to know what to do in such instances.
If your limestone worktops have some kind of etch damage, you will need to clean up the spill and use a stone sealer remover to prepare the area for repair. Make sure that you follow the directions on the package and read them thoroughly before you begin.
Once the sealer has been removed, you need to apply a suitable abrasive polish to the area. Use a polisher to work it into the surface. Start by using a medium-grit polishing pad and don’t forget to wear a mask.
If the surface is not quite smooth enough, remove the polishing pad and use the fine one for the finishing touches. Once you are happy with the result, make sure that you wipe the surface clean and remove all the dust.
Apply the sealer as per instructions to the repaired area. If you have not sealed your worktops before, this would be a great time to apply the sealer to the entire surface. Remember that limestone is highly porous and needs resealing regularly.
For scratches and chips, you might want to call in a professional. Alternatively, you can prepare the area in a similar manner as above, apply the appropriate filler (ask your limestone retailer) and reseal yourself. If ever in doubt or if you don’t have the right equipment, you should call in an expert instead. Don’t sacrifice the quality of your worktops just in an attempt to save some money.
